The Park protects over 150 species of mammals and more than 500 species of birds. All the Big Five game animals are found in the Kruger National Park. On the map is marked: The Big Five - The Big Five (the five greatest animals) are the most important animals sought in African safaris, they are: the lion, the African elephant, the African buffalo, the Leopard and the Black Rhinoceros. On the map is marked: Lion - Lions are the kings of the Kruger National Park, here live over 2,000 lions. Female lions hunt in groups at night or sunrise, they hunt antelopes, warthogs, buffalos, zebras. It isn’t easy to see lions, it requires patience. On the map is marked: Elephant - The African Bush Elephant or Savanna Elephant is the largest living land animal, it reach 7 m. in length and 3.5m. in height, with weighing between 7,000 and 10,000 kg. It’s huge and heavy, but it can run with speed over 40 km/h. On the map is marked: Leopard - The Leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of The Big Five games. It’s difficult to see Leopards in the Kruger National Park because they are mainly nocturnal (sometimes can be seen during day) besides there are only 1,000 Leopards in the Park. These solitary cats are agile tree climbers. On the map is marked: Rhinoceros - The Black Rhinoceros or Black Rhino is one of The Big Five games. An adult weighs from till 1400 kg. It’s quite difficult meeting Rhinoceros because there are only 350 Rhinos in the Kruger National Park. On the map is marked: Buffalo - The last game of the Big Five is the African Buffalo, in the Kruger National Park live more than 25,000 African Buffalo (or Cape Buffalo or Bull), so it’s easy meeting with this animals. African Buffalos reach 1.5 m high, weighs 600 - 750 kg and when they walk next to your car you don’t feel so safe! On the map is marked: Giraffe - In the Kruger National Park live around 9,000 elegant giraffe which can be 5 m - 5.5 m tall. On the map is marked: Zebra - Meetings with zebras are very easy because in Kruger NP live more than 32,000 Zebras. The Plains Zebra is also known as the Common Zebra or the Burchell’s Zebra. On the map is marked: Impala - There are over 170,000 Impala, they are 75 - 95 centimetres tall antelopes with weigh of 40 - 80 kg, they can jump more than 9 meters and 2.5 meters high. On the map is marked: Greater Kudu - The Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is an elegant antelope with vertical white stripes along the body. It’s bigger than the impala, it can weigh 200-300 Kg and reach till 1.5 m high. Meetings with Greater Kudu are more difficult than meetings with Impala because the park has few Greater Kudu (around 5,000). On the map is marked: Warthog - The Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a wild pig. There are approximately 4,000 in the Kruger National Park. On the map is marked: Monkey - Meetings with Vervet monkeys (or green monkeys) and other species of nice monkeys are frequent. They often stand in the middle of the road, so you must stop your car. On the map is marked: Hippopotamus - In Kruger lakes live 3,000 hippopotamuses (Hippopotamus amphibious) also called hippos, they weigh from 1,500 to 3,000 kg. and live in big groups. On the map is marked: Crocodiles - In Kruger waters live also 5,000 Nile Crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus). It’s difficult to say if is more dangerous an hippo or a Crocodile, however Kruger waters aren’t safe places where take a bath! On the map is marked: Kruger Landscapes - The Kruger National Park requires some days by car to be explored, the main rule is that all tourists must stay in their cars all the day, is forbidden leave the car because animals could be very dangerous. On the map is marked: Skukuza Camp, kruger park lodge - The Kruger National Park has more than 20 camps where stay at night, Skukuza is the main one. The old Skukuza train station has been transformed in a restaurant for tourists.
