This Christian Church was transformed into a mosque in 1453 by the Turks. Hagia Sophia means Holy Wisdom, it’s also called Saint Sophia. Today Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya in Turkish) is a museum.

In ancient times this huge room was completely full of water. The Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Saray) was built by Emperor Justinian I in the 6th Century AD, when the Romans excavated a waste hole 25 meters under the ground and built a 138 meters long, 64 meters wide Cistern with 336 columns.
